Review: Are you living your life...as a Visual Reminder of who God is and what He has done….FOR YOU. Titus 3:9-11 8 The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. 9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. Godly spiritual leadership does all things with compassion, but never at the expense of Gospel conviction. Exposition: Titus 3:9-11 9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Foolish controversies Genealogies Dissension (stife) and quarrels about the Law Meet the divisive person: 10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, Kenneth Wuest, “A heretic is one therefore who refuses to accept true doctrine as it is revealed in the Bible, and prefers to choose for himself what he is to believe.” D.A. Carson “The immediate evidence of a divisive spirit, in this context, is an unrepentant argumentativeness about peripherals.” 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. Application: How avoid being divisive? Shape, Shift, Strengthen, Serve 1. Shape Thinking with Scripture 2. Shift Worries with Prayer 3. Strengthen Relationships with Community 4. Serve Others with Generosity
